This sculpture sited at an entrance to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital in north Wales recognises the vital act of organ donation. I devised two embracing walls that provide seating and opportunity for contemplation. One wall in slate creates a space to acknowledge those who have been donors, the other in limestone celebrates those who have been fortunate enough to be recipients.
Text created by donor families and recipients is engraved in each appropriate space, with a circle of contrasting stone enhancing a sense of yin and yang, of a little of each in the other.
A special thanks to organ donation nurse Phil Jones for persevering with this special project, and to Cerrig Slate and Granite Ltd for the engraved lettering.
