Halo Foods Tywyn

Halo Foods is well known for its honey ice cream shop at the approach to Tywyn. The vision of Peter Saunders created the shop, the factory, and the Halo snack bar.  He also had the vision to enhance the factory frontage and visitor offer by commissioning artwork that would provide both interest and functional seating.

The focal point is a triangle of stacked slate that Peter had seen in my workshop and really wanted for his factory. I suggested we created a landscape and artwork setting for the sculpture, and together we were successful in securing an arts and business grant, with the assistance of Simon Fenoulhet of Cywaith Cymru. A small project grew into something much bigger.

The circular seating includes low-relief inserts and stones in niches collected from the corresponding point on the horizon. Thirty years on, the sculpture and landscaping remain well cared for and very much appreciated by the many visitors to Tywyn – some of whom now bring their children to sit where they once sat to eat their ice cream.
